Hero’s They May
(From The Woodsman’s Notebook)

I hear sad stories from time to time; of all the wars we got involved with and how they were such terrible crimes.
Money, oil and domination to name a few, misunderstood intentions muttered by you. But what you may not know or you don’t understand, is a story of our magnificent Constitution and of our great land.
If only you had paid attention to our history. I am sure if you had you would tearfully agree, my countries battles were paid with a high price you see, because the cost of freedom is not and will never be free. All things taken for granted, all the things we do came by the cost of freedom for me and you.
For the war mongers we are which some people claim to say, I ask you this now. How many wars have we started and what did we pay?
The first war we were involved in with England then France over thirteen colonies and a wilderness so vast.
A right to choose, a right to pray I still hold close to me this and everyday. From ocean to ocean and dock to dock, this gives me the right to own a piece of the rock.
We had war amongst ourselves yes it is true over who would win over our Red, White and Blue. North and South fought over the rights of masters and slave, over the truest rights in which God gave. Rights to all races, no matter of color or creed, the rights of every man, woman and child, he gave the right to be free.
The freedom of choice, religion, and speech to name just a few, with a freedom of wealth that some will not agree to.
Whether rich or poor our countrymen may boast either which way we may choose for lesser or most. From rags to riches we see everyday, while in other countries the people held at bay.
Two World wars that had nothing to do with us, but involved we got by the worlds own request.
England needed our involvement in Germany and France, for next what the Nazi’s could take would be their small little land. We got involved finally it’s true. We fought for the freedom that had nothing to do, nothing at all with our Red White and Blue.
We crossed an ocean to answer freedom’s call we gave just a little we gave it our all.
While we were there and before we came back, little did we know on our soil would be under attack. After the battle when it was done, the ships that attacked went home to the land of the rising sun. The men on the ships all sang with cheer, while the Admiral contemplated with tear. We woke up the lion and he is hungry I fear. War off our right banks, war off our left, beckons a call to glory and honor we will give all our best. For freedom is not ours alone. We will be there when ever the Liberty bell tolls.
It never ended and didn’t go away, like we all prayed it would one day. War and police actions had come and gone and American Soldiers died for the cause. A cause we hold so close to our heart you see, freedom is meant for everyone and not just you and me.
So for those of you who see us in disgust, our war mongering ways you do not trust. Your borders were open to the hero’s who ran, with open arms you let them in.
