You thanked me for coming I made her day, you appreciated way her eyes lit up that way. You thought you could take me for such a fool, but that was not the time I had to keep cool. You prodded us to sit and stay for a while, put the past behind us you said with a smile. Come sit on the deck and be with the rest, getting back on the road is what I knew to be best.
You told me to call if I needed to talk; I looked up at the ceiling and started to walk. I told now was not the time, and three days later my mother was gone.
Why did you hug and try to kiss me that day? Didn’t Judas hug Jesus in much the same way? The truth must be told and I will say, it was not you I came to see, I came for my mother to give her peace.

Do not mourn for me at my mother’s pass; for she did not die she is home at last.

We Are Americans
(From the Woodsman’s Notebook)

For over two hundred years, we have flown our banner high, and we have flown it proud, for we are the Americans. We have fought the wars in Asia; we have had our young men die on the shores of Europe, and we spread our blood in Africa We died proud for we are Americans. Freedom, Liberty, Justice for all, and the pursuit of happiness these are our calls we do what we can and do it well we are Americans. Liberty for all is our cry, for Freedoms cause we lay down our lives after all we are Americans. A motley group such are we, we spread ourselves from sea to sea we still raise our banner high for all because we are Americans. Like my father before me, and his before him we all served our country well with our oath to defend for are Americans. All, races colors, beliefs and creed we are all brothers you and me. Our home is wide our lands are vast and we will handle any task for our family name which makes us proud, we are the Americans.
